Wont stop me going, hold on a minute, I don’t go clubbing
Those fees are levied by APRA
(Austn Peforming Rights Assn)
on all public places which have even a radio playing.
It has been the biggest scam for decades
and it is collected in a style similar to the troopers on the 1854 goldfields collecting miners licence money.
The amount has always been onerous.
Only a small percentage of composers actually bother to submit a claim to APRA for their share of the funds, so there is a lot left over..
APRA executives treat themselves to 10 fabulous days on the French Riviera every year on the proceeds of these fees.
They claim they NEED to attend the MIDEM festival, which is the music business equivalent of the Cannes Film festival.
stuff ‘em.
